From Pharma to Founders: My Path to Venture Capital Marketing

Coming from a background in chemical engineering, I never imagined I’d one day be leading marketing and PR efforts in a venture studio startup. My career began in the highly technical and regulated pharmaceutical startup space, where precision, problem-solving, and analytical thinking were essential. However, as I progressed, I realized that beyond the technical challenges, there was a deeper need for clear communication, strategic positioning, and storytelling—skills that connect innovation with market success.

The Transition from Engineering to Marketing

My shift into marketing was largely driven by my introduction to venture capital and entrepreneurship, thanks to Andrew and Abbas, who opened my eyes to the world of startups, investment strategies, and business growth. Engineering taught me to approach problems with structure and analytical rigor—skills that have proven invaluable in marketing. In pharma, success depends on validation, efficiency, and compliance, much like how marketing relies on data-driven strategies, audience insights, and precise messaging. My technical background allows me to break down complex concepts and translate them into compelling narratives that resonate with stakeholders—from founders to investors. This combination of technical insight and creative passion fuels my work in marketing.

Building a Brand Voice at Encore Venture Labs

When I joined Encore Venture Labs, my focus was on developing a strong brand voice and establishing a clear, consistent presence. At the time, EVL was still defining its identity in the venture capital space. My role was to refine messaging, craft content strategies, and build a cohesive narrative that communicated our mission and values. This foundational work helped position EVL for greater engagement, strengthened our credibility, and laid the groundwork for broader marketing and PR efforts.

Bridging the Gap Between Technical and Strategic Growth

My journey in marketing has allowed me to bridge the gap between technical teams and business leaders. With my engineering background, I can break down complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with stakeholders. I approach both branding and engineering challenges with the same mindset: analyzing data, identifying key insights, and crafting structured solutions. This approach has been key to translating technical innovation into strategic growth for start ups.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of my transition into marketing has been embracing creativity—whether through content strategies, brand positioning, or podcast development. In addition to collaborating with industry experts, I’ve had the opportunity to network with individuals who have their own successful podcasts, gaining insights and inspiration that have shaped the direction of our own podcast initiatives. This creative element is something I’ve grown passionate about, as it complements my technical background and allows me to engage with audiences in a fresh, impactful way.
